DCCI is turning up the heat with the inaugural Taste the World in Devonport Festival.
The Devonport Chamber of Commerce Inc. (DCCI) is thrilled to announce the inaugural “Taste the World in Devonport” festival, taking place fromNovember 8-10, 2024.
This exciting event will celebrate multicultural cuisine and cultural diversity, providing a vibrant platform for showcasing the international flavours available in our city.
As a joint community initiative supported by DCCI, Home Hill, Welcome Cultural Services, the International Café, SeaFM and 7AD, the festival aims to highlight various traditions and histories through food and enhance social cohesion. The festival will kick off with a “Spice Lane” event on Friday, November 8 in the laneway between the paranaple Convention Centre and the Visitor Information Centre. The festival will continue over the weekend with diverse culinary offerings offered at participating restaurants. The festival offers a vibrant platform for businesses and the community to share and enjoy food from various cultures, fostering intercultural understanding and social unity. DCCI President, Claire Connelly, said food is a great way to bring people from different backgrounds together, and that diversity was good for communities and good for business. “Australia is one of the world’s great multicultural success stories. Migrants have played a crucial role in starting and staffing, Australian businesses. There used to be a perception that Devonport wasn’t diverse, interesting or welcoming, but that has changed a lot in recent times.
This event is an opportunity to celebrate that and show visitors just how much the variety the Devonport food scene has to offer.” Said Mrs Connelly. Taste the World in Devonport Working Group Chairperson, Lynn Laycock said she is thrilled the community have been engaged with the idea of this new event for Devonport which is intended to create social cohesion within our Living City. Local hospitality businesses with a passion for multi-cultural cuisine are invited to participate.
