DEVONPORT BUSINESS ACHIEVERS CELEBRATED

As always, the highlight of last night’s Devonport Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (DCCI) Annual Dinner, was the awards presentation.

The Business Achiever Award went to Andrew Hillier, CEO of Devonport Chaplaincy, Loaves and Fishes Tasmania and Community Mentoring Tasmania. It is awarded each year to honour the outstanding contribution of an individual to the local business community.

“Andrew is such a deserving recipient of this award. He is the driving force behind so many wonderful initiatives in our community, applying innovation and business acumen to the service of others. He is a skillful and compassionate leader.” said DCCI president, Claire Connelly.

The Business Of The Year Award was awarded to BridgePro Engineering. It is awarded each year to recognise outstanding success of a local business.

“BridgePro Engineering is one of those business that north-west coasters are really proud of. Their first bridge was 10m long with a budget of $19,000, and now they’re playing a key role in the construction of the 1.2km long Bridgewater Bridge which has a budget of $800m. They have a string of major projects and awards behind them, and are a great Tasmanian successstory that isstill being written.” said Mrs Connelly.

Another highlight of the evening was the guest speaker presentation by futurist, Katy Cooper, who engaged the crowd with insights about the issues and opportunities businesses are likely to face over the next decade and beyond.

The Chamber’s 84th Annual General Meeting was held immediately prior to the Annual Dinner and resulted in the following new Executive.

Last year was a great year for DCCI, and they all played a part in that. I’d also like to thank our new and continuing Executive Members, as well as those who put their hat in the ring but weren’t lucky this time. All of the candidates were deserving, and I’d welcome other ways to work together.” said Mrs Connelly.
