President’s Message
Dear Members and Friends,
Spring is in the air!
Celebrating Local Excellence
The re-launch of our Business Excellence Awards is the big highlight this month!
Nominations are now open – businesses can nominate themselves, and the public is encouraged to put forward their favourite enterprises. Finalists will be announced in October, with winners revealed at our black-tie red-carpet gala on 15 November at the paranaple Convention Centre. With more than 150 businesses, changemakers, and community leaders expected, it promises to be a landmark celebration.
These Awards are about more than trophies – they build visibility, confidence, and capacity for our local businesses, while reinforcing Devonport’s identity as a thriving hub to do business, invest, and grow. I encourage every member to consider nominating or supporting a fellow business.
A huge thank you to our dedicated Working Group for their efforts behind the scenes and to our amazing sponsors for backing this celebration of local business excellence.
Your Voice in Action
Through the TCCI Chamber Alliance and other forums, we continue to advocate on the issues that matter most: right-sized regulation, a fairer tax system, improved access to capital, and solutions to the housing and workforce shortages impacting so many of our members. Locally, we remain focused on education and infrastructure investment as foundations for growth. If you have a specific policy or advocacy matter you would like considered, please feel free to reach out to one of our Executive Members.
A Transformative Opportunity – Marinus Link
The final investment decision for Marinus Link is a game-changer for our region. It means jobs, energy security, and new industries. Join us at this Wednesday’s Business & Brew to learn first-hand about the opportunities and benefits ahead. It’s these types of projects which will ensure Tasmania is a bright place to live, work and invest for our young people.
Stronger Connections
From “Conversations with Australian Heroes” to the Skilled Migration Forum and Homelessness Week, our events and partnerships are building networks that strengthen both business and community. Planning is also underway for International Men’s Day with the Clifford Craig Foundation in November.
Thank you once again for your ongoing support, and I look forward to seeing to at our upcoming events.
Regards,

Claire Connelly

nbn Local Tasmania Update
The nbn has partnered with Amazon to deliver LEO Satellite Broadband to regional Australia
In a major step toward bridging Australia’s digital divide, nbn has announced an exciting new partnership with Amazon to deliver Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite broadband services to regional and remote communities across the country.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in the effort to provide fast, reliable, and affordable internet access to underserved areas. The partnership will leverage Amazon’s advanced satellite technology to enhance connectivity, particularly in locations where traditional infrastructure has struggled to reach.
Over recent years, extensive travel through remote parts of Tasmania has highlighted the stark reality of connectivity challenges faced by many communities. With this new satellite solution, residents in these areas can look forward to transformative improvements in digital access.
Notably, Tasmania is expected to be among the first regions to benefit from the rollout, thanks to its geographic positioning. Services are anticipated to commence by mid-2026, offering a promising future for local households, businesses, and institutions.
For those interested in further details or in arranging a stakeholder briefing, additional information and resources are available via the links below.
This development represents a bold stride toward digital equity—ensuring that no matter where Australians live, they can stay connected to the opportunities of the modern world.
