President’s Message

Welcome to our first e‑news for 2026. After a huge couple of years this year is already shaping up to be another exciting one. Our focus will be on consolidating our achievements of last year, continuing to grow our membership, and making sure Devonport remains a place where every business, and every person behind those businesses, feels included and supported to thrive.

Recent net migration data according to the Regional Movers Index now places Devonport third nationally, a remarkable result for our City. It confirms what many of us see every day, people are choosing to live, work and invest here. This growth brings new customers, new skills and new ideas, but it also brings pressure on housing, services and infrastructure. DCCI will continue to represent our members’ interests in these conversations and ensure your voice is heard by decision makers.
As part of this momentum, several major projects are set to strengthen our local economy in 2026:
The $60M Devonport Multi Sports Precinct will deliver new indoor and outdoor courts, a 2,000‑seat show court and high‑performance facilities, driving an estimated $118M in economic activity and more than 360 jobs during construction.
The $60M Stony Rise Village Shopping Centre, including a full‑line Woolworths and new retail offerings is expected to commence construction soon, supporting 1,200+ jobs and responding to strong population growth.

The $40M State‑funded Mental Health Hub on Formby Road will also begin construction this year, improving local access to services while contributing to the broader LIVING CITY vision.

These projects collectively reinforce Devonport’s growing role as a regional centre of choice for investment and opportunity.
One of the highlights on our calendar this year will be our Women in Business Summit, the centrepiece of our reimagined International Women’s Day. It’s more than an event, it’s a movement to redefine IWD, shifting from symbolic celebration to a platform for leadership, empowerment and lasting change. Now in its second year, the Summit will align with the global IWD 2026 campaign, “Give to Gain”, reminding us that when we share our knowledge, time and resources, we all gain. Under the banner “Lead the Change: The Power of Women in Leadership”, the program is shaping up, and we’re thrilled to bring some incredible women to Devonport to share their insights and inspire you.

In February, your Executive will hold its first meeting for the year, where we’ll revisit the priorities from our December planning session. That work will guide our focus for 2026, from the events we deliver, to the advocacy we pursue, to how we engage and support our members. Our commitment is to stay member‑led and focused on outcomes that make a real difference to doing business in Devonport and surrounding areas.
Thank you for your continued support and for everything you contribute to our community. I’m looking forward to working with you throughout 2026 to build on our momentum and ensure our growth story benefits businesses of all sizes.
