A message from our President
Hello Devonport and our wonderful business member community,
It’s been another exciting month for DCCI. Last month we hosted our third employment workshop in collaboration with the Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (TCCI) and a special event in partnership with our neighbouring regional business associations and Business Tasmania to help business owners understand effective Exit Strategies for Small Business. Our breakfast with Abe Udy, exploring the Power of Podcasting for Business, was also a knock out with one lucky attendee Katt Spaulding from Roberts Real Estate winning an amazing podcast package valued at $6,500!!! We look forward to hearing the end product and sharing with our members.
A warm welcome to our new members—your involvement strengthens our advocacy and community. As a DCCI member, you enjoy TCCI’s support services along with special member discounts with our partners – The Goodstone Group and The Old Woolstore.

Behind the scenes our Executive Team met with Minister Ellis on a range of housing, planning, skills and training matters and we supported a renewed push for a review of Devonport Airport’s ownership and operating model which underscores our commitment to advance our city’s future. Recently I also had a positive meeting with Madeleine Ogilvie, at the time Minister for Small Business and Consumer Affairs and shared some ideas to bring some new business events to Devonport.
We also recently finalised our 2024/25 Annual Plan and formalised our advocacy priorities as we prepare for the upcoming Federal Election. Our Annual Plan, which includes some exciting new projects and initiatives, is aligned with our new Strategic Plan and our valued Partnership Agreement with Devonport City Council.
One new initiative we are working on with a range of project partners is Taste the World in Devonport, a multi-cultural cuisine festival bringing an international taste to our City through a celebration of culture, history and nationally. The weekend will commence with a special event, Spice Lane, highlighting a range of hospitality vendors. To find out more or express your interest to be involved check our Facebook Page
In other news, we are also looking to fill a key position within DCCI. We’re on the hunt for a Member Support and Events Coordinator as Tina Treloar intends to hand over the reins. Read the position description on our website.
Have you booked your spot for our breakfast with CEO and Management Director, Bernard Dwyer next week? Don’t miss out, book now. Make sure you also save the date for our upcoming Annual Dinner on 3 October. Katy Cooper, Co-CEO and Chief Futurist of Disruptive Co will be our keynote speaker.
Lastly, please take the time to fill out our short quarterly Business Pulse Check survey – a new initiative introduced to help us improve our services and understand how we can better support our members and advocate on your behalf.
DCCI is a member organisation and our Board, consisting of volunteer Executive Members who are all valuable business contributors in their own right, are here to support you. Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events.
Best Regards,
Claire Connelly
