The Devonport Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s new president, Claire Smith, said “Surely there has never been a better time to be in Devonport?”.
Relocating from Burnie in 2021 to take up a job with Synectic Accountants and Advisers, the 38 year-old quickly realised Devonport was experiencing a major transformation.
“What started as an urban revitalisation project, has really become much more than that. ‘Living City’ has had a positive impact not only on the way our city looks, but also on the way that people living here, feel about ourselves.
It’s an honour to be given the task of building on the hard work and vision of Chamber office bearers and members before me, during such an important and exciting time, and I am lucky to be supported by a great committee.” Ms Smith said.
Ms Smith acknowledged the hard work of Dave Race who stepped down from the role last month, and James Foster who, as Senior Vice President, stepped up to cover the vacancy at the time.
Ms Smith was elected as president at the AGM on 28 September, alongside the following Executive Members:
- James Foster, Senior Vice President
- Rod Bramich, Vice President
- John Alexiou, Retail Sub-Committee Chair
- Mike Badcock, Industry & Education Sub-Committee Chair
- Kylie Bell, Tourism Sub-Committee Chair
- Ian Macleod
- Tina Treloar, Secretary
Early next year the Chamber will be reviewing its strategic plan, with a view to aligning it with the City of Devonport’s Greater Residential Growth Strategy 2021 – 2024 and other initiatives, and supporting the soon to be released investment prospectus, Invest Devonport 2023 edition.
“My personal goal as President, is to increase, better understand and better represent our membership, so we can make it easier for businesses to make Devonport prosper. The great relationships we have with Devonport City Council and the State Government means we’re well very placed to do that.
